The Rubens' House

Peter Paul Rubens 1577-1640 is Antwerp's most famous artist. Hes works can be found on many places in Antwerp, but this house gives an insight to how he lived. Rubens bought the house when he came back from Italy, and lived in the house for almost 30 years until hes death. The city of Antwerp bought the house in terrible shape in 1937, and used the oldest known sketches from 1680 as basis for the restoration.

When walking through the house a guest can see quite a few works of Rubens, but also many works of hes apprentices. Even though there aren't any really significant works in this museum it's definitely worth a visit, as it gives a good picture of where Rubens' made many of hes most appreciated works.
